seriously so blessed.

"People are particularly stupid today.
I can't talk to any more of them."
-Michele-

My day started out with an angry old lady yelling at me on the phone {for a mistake someone else made}, and then another one followed. It continued into most of my stories falling apart, someone telling me my name was "way too weird to be okay" when they handed me my lunch, someone I love hurting my feelings, and then followed into someone else telling my boss that I shouldn't be in charge because everything would fall apart.

Then as I went to grab some notebooks from the store I walked past one of those CD preview racks and heard this song playing from the speakers:
and teared up cried in the stationary aisle.

I got homesick for my mom's bed and long hours of chatting as she folded laundry around me (happens a lot when I'm at home), of having to ask my dad to borrow his car (like I'm 16 again), of having a multitude of food in the house and enough string cheese to satiate my every need, of my little sister telling me all the new things that are going on with her friends and their new-found guy friends {a miracle to 12 year old girls}, of my baby brother asking to go on every errand I have to go on -- just so we get to hang out and rock out, of my other little brother asking me to play the piano so we can sing together and work out awesome harmonies.
Homesick for a big part of my heart.
For my mom who has always called me sunshine and sings this to me while stroking my hair.
For my dad who has a gorgeous voice, and no music reading ability -- but learned to play this song for me.

And then I reminded myself I'm SUPER blessed because:
I HAVE that awesome family.
{So many people aren't that lucky.}
I have a wonderful boyfriend who loves me more than I could ever ask for.
I have a job, a place to live, a car, food, clothes, shoes, and a whole bunch of things I don't necessarily need, but am so grateful I get to have.
I have a work ethic that gets me places in life.
I have you guys.
I have a funny roommate who puts up with my idiosyncrasies and craziness.
I have talents and abilities that many other people would love to have.
I have kick butt hair.
And so many other things.

It's funny how a not so great day can put all the really great stuff in your life into perspective.

xoxo.

  1. I think we all have crummy days like that...but when we stop and think of all we have, it doesn't seem so crummy anymore.

Yay for awesome families that turn our frowns upside down.

  4. Sometimes all you need is a little perspective to turn a seemingly bad day into a not-so-bad day. Glad to hear you were able to turn that frown upside down! :)

  5. I absolutely hate days like that! I'm absolutely like you, I would break down crying in a store just hearing a song, lol. It's good that it helps you remember everything you have and are grateful for.

  9. Siovhan, you are one of the most talented people I know! Who in the world could've said something like that about you at work?
To quote you in the past, "do I need to go beat some sucker up?" :) Seriously.

  10. I can relate. I was kind of feeling like Heavenly Father left me out on the blessing line yesterday. It seemed like it was all trial and fail, error didn't even come into play. Never in my wildest dreams did I dream that I would live so far away from my children. I mean, it was okay for me to move away from my parents, they had so many other children to live close to them...but, it wasn't okay for MY children to grow up, and move to the opposite side of my universe.

Yes you do have kick butt hair...could I get some of that? And shoes...oh to have half as many shoes. A mom can dream can't she?

I love you. I miss you. I don't want you to cry. I guess every sky has to have some rain showers, but we all prefer sunshine.

  11. That's the spirit lady. I've learned that joy stealers are all around us. They're only happy when other people aren't. And the best way to combat them is to be grateful and happy for your blessings...and you are!

  12. I have a little crinkled list i carry in my purse. for some reason, when i'm stressed, i violently look in my bag for something (phone, wallet, whatever) and when i see this list, the day goes by much easier.
I love your attitude towards life lady!
